‘Outclassed and Outcoached’ — Paul Bissonnette delivers brutal verdict on Oilers’ loss to Maple Leafs

Paul Bissonnette did not hold back after the Edmonton Oilers suffered a humiliating 7-2 home loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. The former NHL player criticized Edmonton’s performance, claiming Toronto exposed the team’s weaknesses and outcoached its opponent.

Bissonnette shared his reaction on X after the Maple Leafs ended Edmonton’s three-game winning streak at Rogers Place. His post targeted the Oilers’ overall performance and how the Leafs contained Connor McDavid.

“Oilers looked invincible until they played an actual hockey team,” Bissonnette wrote. “Leafs just made them their b***h in Edmonton’s building.”

He also claimed Toronto had completely neutralized Edmonton’s captain during the matchup.

“They completely neutralized McJesus. They [expletive] him in front of his own fans,” Bissonnette added.

The analyst concluded his post with another pointed assessment of the game.

“I can’t beleaf what I just witnessed. From my non biased media perspective the Oil were just outclassed & out coached,” he wrote.

Maple Leafs exposes Oilers’ supporting cast

The final score reflected Toronto’s superior depth throughout the game. William Nylander scored twice to reach 300 career NHL goals, while five other Maple Leafs found the net.

Anthony Stolarz also delivered a strong performance, making 30 saves to help secure the victory.

Edmonton’s star forwards still produced offensively, but their efforts could not prevent the defeat. Leon Draisaitl scored both Oilers goals, while McDavid recorded two assists to extend his season-opening points streak to 11 games.

Former Maple Leafs forward Jay Rosehill also criticized the reaction from Edmonton supporters.

“The excuses coming out of Oiler country right now is fairly embarrassing,” Rosehill wrote. “One on top of the other. I thought they were better than that. Imagine their replies if Leafs fans acted like that after a beating?”

Meanwhile, former NHL player and longtime Oilers fan Ryan Whitney remained optimistic about Edmonton’s championship hopes.

“That loss tonight will only make the win in the cup final against the Leafs that much sweeter,” Whitney wrote.

The Oilers dropped to 8-2-1 after the defeat. Head coach Mike Babcock also acknowledged that Toronto’s players were more competitive and quicker throughout the game.

“The bottom line is they were better than ours,” Babcock said. “They were more competitive than us. They were quicker than us. They were better. I mean, so we can blame anybody we want as a group, as a coach. Jim Hiller had his group playing harder than I had my group. So, that’s on me.”

Edmonton will now look to respond against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.
