The Edmonton Oilers suffered a disappointing 7-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, leaving fans frustrated with the team’s performance. Edmonton entered the matchup on a three-game winning streak but struggled to contain Toronto throughout the game.
Following the defeat, the Oilers shared the final score on X, prompting NHL fans to voice their displeasure. Several supporters criticized the team’s effort, while others questioned its reliance on star forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
One fan summed up the performance with a blunt reaction: “Embarrassing 🤦♂️”
Another questioned Edmonton’s offensive depth, writing, “Powerplay merchants couldn’t get it done tonight 😂 does anybody apart from mcdavid and draisaitl ever score for this fraudulent team?”

A third fan defended goaltender Tristan Jarry while criticizing the team’s overall effort.
“Every Oilers fan will put this game on jarry,” the fan wrote. “I won’t deny he didn’t play great but when you legit don’t have your bottom 2 lines going and pretty much only have 3-4 players going tonight, you can’t blame a goalie on everything when you have too many passengers on this team.”
One fan wrote, “McDavid took a contract paying him $12.5 for this management group. Hate the Oilers, but the fans are insane like us and deserve better!”
A user targeted Jarry, writing, “Never let Jarry in net again; what the f*** was that.”
One user said, “So lessons learned from first 11 games. Draisatl and McDavid have to score 5 points each or the oilers are going to come up short. That’s assuming the goaltending doesn’t tank now. 🤔”
Coach Mike Babcock unhappy with Oilers’ effort
Head coach Mike Babcock also expressed his disappointment after the defeat.
“I didn’t like anything about tonight,” Babcock said, while talking about Oilers’ neutral zone effort. “I thought [Alex] Formenton played hard. I thought [Zach] Hyman played hard. I thought [Connor] Murphy played hard. I thought [Ryan] Shea, [Evan] Bouchard. We didn’t have enough guys. Like, if you’re going through the list and you’re talking about a few guys, that’s not enough guys.”
The Maple Leafs dominated offensively, with William Nylander scoring twice to reach 300 career NHL goals. Anthony Stolarz also delivered a strong performance, stopping 30 shots.
Draisaitl scored both Edmonton goals, taking his league-leading total to 12. McDavid recorded two assists, extending his season-opening points streak to 11 games with 33 points.
However, their contributions could not prevent the heavy defeat. Jarry finished with 25 saves as Toronto improved to 7-4-2 with its fourth consecutive victory.

Zach Hyman admitted the Maple Leafs deserved the result.
“They were just better than us,” Hyman said. “They were more competitive, they won more battles. … They scored a big one when it counted to make it 4-1. We had a power play a couple times early in the game where if we get one there it maybe changes it, but they just beat us in every area today.”
Edmonton now sits at 8-2-1 and will look to respond against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.
