‘Good for Oilers’ — Tristan Jarry’s back-to-back shutouts prompt strong reaction from Mike Babcock

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Tristan Jarry has given his team a major boost with back-to-back shutouts. His recent performances have also earned a strong reaction from head coach Mike Babcock.

Jarry stopped all 18 shots against the New York Islanders on Saturday, securing a 4-0 victory. He followed that performance after a 24-save shutout against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, making it six consecutive periods without allowing a goal.

Speaking after the Islanders win, Babcock expressed happiness for the veteran NHL goaltender. He also highlighted the work Jarry put in during the offseason after a difficult previous campaign.

“Well, I’m real happy for him. First thing is, as you know, what he lived through last year,” Babcock said.

“And then he got to work all summer, and he’s done a good job with Pete. And suddenly, it appears like he has his confidence back.”

Babcock added that the turnaround matters beyond the team’s results.

“So that’s real good for the Oilers, but it’s real good for him and his family. So I’m happy for him,” he concluded.

Tristan Jarry gives Edmonton Oilers stability

Jarry’s recent performances have strengthened Edmonton’s goaltending situation. He recorded 24 saves against Calgary before stopping 18 shots against New York.

The two shutouts mark his first consecutive shutout performances since November 2021. They also represent the 24th and 25th shutouts of his NHL career. He also became the fourth Oilers goalie in the last 20 years, and the sixth in franchise history, to secure consecutive shutouts.

Jarry has taken on greater responsibility following Devon Levi’s injury. His recent form gives Babcock another reliable option as Edmonton manages its goaltending rotation.

The Oilers have also benefited from improved defensive structure. Their consecutive 4-0 victories show how effective the team can be when its goaltender and defensive group work together.

Jarry’s confidence could become particularly important as the season progresses. Edmonton needs consistent performances between the pipes to maintain its position among the Pacific Division contenders.
