Football fans have reacted with surprise after FC Barcelona agreed a €10 million deal to sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported the agreement on X. “BREAKING: Barcelona agree deal to sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, here we go!” Romano wrote.
He added that a medical is booked for Monday, with Arsenal set to receive a “€10m package plus add-ons.” Jesus will travel for the medical after receiving authorization from Arsenal.
The 29-year-old Brazilian forward has fallen down Mikel Arteta’s attacking pecking order. Arsenal have increasingly relied on Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyökeres for their attacking options.

Barcelona, meanwhile, have moved for experience as they reshape their forward line. The Catalan club see Jesus as a player who can provide depth and tactical flexibility.
Football fans quickly focused on the transfer fee.
One supporter wrote, “Can u imagine 10m, we bought him 65m 😭,” referencing Arsenal’s original £45 million investment in 2022.
Another fan took an even stronger view. “I wanted to say something crazy about this deal 🤝 but when I saw it was for €10 million, I can only say we robbed Arsenal,” they wrote.
A third fan wrote, “Arsenal really can’t sell worth a [expletive] can they?”
“We need people like Gabriel for LaLiga while the big boy focus on UCL,” one fan mentioned.
However, not every reaction was positive.
A fan said, “From Alvarez to Jesus. Barcelona has fell off 😭💔,” showing his disappointment.
One user wrote, “Barcelona is now becoming a small club to sign this leftover player who has no value, right from Man City down to Arsenal. This shows Barcelona will be relegated from the top 4 this season. Real Madrid will be crowned champion by April next year.”
Why FC Barcelona see value in Gabriel Jesus?
The transfer represents a major financial contrast for Arsenal. The club paid around £45 million to Manchester City for Jesus, who scored 33 goals across 123 appearances.
His Arsenal spell also included important contributions beyond goals. Jesus offered movement, pressing and the ability to operate across multiple attacking positions.
However, injuries affected his consistency. He suffered an ACL injury in January 2025 and missed a significant portion of the following campaign.
Jesus made 14 Premier League appearances during the 2025-26 season, scoring three goals. That limited role helped push Arsenal toward a permanent solution this summer.
From Barcelona’s perspective, the move carries manageable financial risk. A €10 million package gives the club an experienced forward without committing major resources to another marquee signing.
Meanwhile, Fernando Polo has defended the move by Barcelona, saying, “The signing of Gabriel Jesus is a way to complete the squad and for Deco to give Flick the profile he was missing, that of a pure 9. It’s also a market opportunity. But it does NOT go against Barça’s interest in Julián Álvarez, which remains firm in case the opportunity arises.”

The key question will be his fitness and role. If Jesus stays healthy, Barcelona can gain a versatile attacker who understands high-level European football.
For Arsenal, the deal closes an expensive chapter. For Barcelona, it offers an experienced forward at a relatively modest cost.
