“It Sucks”: Maple Leafs’ Losing Skid Reaches 6 as Joseph Woll Admits Frustration

The Toronto Maple Leafs extended their losing streak to six games after a 6–2 defeat against the New York Rangers on Thursday night. Goaltender Joseph Woll admitted the mood inside the locker room has been tough as the team struggles to turn results around.

The loss continued a difficult run for Toronto since the Olympic break.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Woll did not hide his frustration. The goalie said losing repeatedly has taken a toll on the group.

“It sucks losing,” Woll said. “It sucks being in this position. I’ve been in this position since I’ve been here and it’s not a fun feeling. Selling or whatever that might be, that sucks. I hate it. It’s way more fun when you’re winning.”

Woll added that the team must still find a way to recover before the season slips further away.

“We have to get out of this slump regardless of what the rest of the season looks like,” Woll said.

The Rangers secured the win at Madison Square Garden thanks to a strong third period. Alexis Lafreniere scored the go-ahead goal on a deflection early in the period to break the tie. A few minutes later, Jaroslav Chmelar added his first career NHL goal to increase the lead.

The victory carried extra meaning for New York. It marked the team’s first regulation home win in more than three months. The Rangers had struggled badly at home since beating the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 24.

Goaltender Igor Shesterkin helped seal the win with 29 saves. His performance offered a positive sign for the team as management looks ahead to possible roster moves before the trade deadline.

Joseph Woll’s Performance is Impacted by The Toronto Maple Leafs’ Struggles

Toronto’s season has been full of more downs than ups this season. The Maple Leafs hold a 27-25-11 record and sit seventh in the Atlantic Division. Despite averaging over three goals per game, defensive problems have hurt the team during the recent skid.

Woll has recorded a 13-10-4 record this season with a 3.05 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. However, the recent defeat highlighted Toronto’s current struggles.

The Maple Leafs will try to end their losing streak when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night.
