‘Great deal’: Oilers fans praise Colton Dach’s new contract extension

The Edmonton Oilers have secured one of their physical depth forwards, signing Colton Dach to a two-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $1.2 million. The move has since earned praise from fans, who viewed the deal as a low-risk investment in a player capable of filling an important bottom-six role.

The Oilers’ shared the announcement on X, writing, “Dacher 👊”

Reactions on X reflected that optimism.

One fan wrote, “Great deal on a very underrated player who will only get better.”

Another added, “Great deal honestly, Dach is a stud. Good shit Bowman.”

A fan wrote, “Tenacity! That’s what the Oilers need, and I hope that a healthy line of Frederic, Samanski and Dach bring loads of it to every game!”

One fan reacted, saying, “Dach is only gonna get better love this signing my boy got swollen over the break.”

A user wrote, “He’s gunna sell $3,000,000 worth of jerseys, gunna be a fan favourite.”

One fan called it, “Steal LFG. Everyone signed with $4ish mil in space. Hell yeah.”

Edmonton acquired Dach from the Chicago Blackhawks at last season’s trade deadline. The 23-year-old appeared in 61 games during the 2025-26 campaign, recording five goals, eight assists, and 52 penalty minutes.

After making his Oilers debut on March 6, Dach contributed two goals and four assists across eight regular-season games with Edmonton. He also played five playoff games, posting one assist while averaging 8:27 of ice time, along with 23 hits and three blocked shots.

Physical play makes Colton Dach a valuable fit

Dach’s biggest contribution comes away from the scoresheet. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound winger finished with 219 hits last season, ranking among the NHL’s top 15 despite playing fewer games than everyone else in that group.

That physical style matches the direction general manager Stan Bowman has taken this offseason. Following Edmonton’s unexpected first-round playoff exit, the organization focused on becoming harder to play against while creating more salary-cap flexibility.

Bowman reshaped the roster by trading Darnell Nurse, rebuilding the goaltending tandem with Frederik Andersen and Devon Levi, and adding affordable depth around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Retaining Dach fits that broader plan.

At $1.2 million annually, the contract gives Edmonton cost certainty while preserving valuable cap space for future additions during the season.

Smart value for Edmonton’s evolving roster

This extension is less about offensive production and more about roster balance. Championship contenders need reliable role players who bring energy, physicality, and consistency without consuming significant cap space.

Dach still has room to grow offensively after arriving in Edmonton late last season. His combination of size, forechecking ability, and willingness to finish checks gives the Oilers a different dimension than many of their skill forwards.

The contract also carries limited financial risk. If Dach continues developing, Edmonton gains excellent value. If his production remains modest, the cap hit remains manageable.

Fan reactions reflect that reality. Rather than chasing expensive depth options, the Oilers have rewarded a young player who already fits their identity. In a summer centered on reshaping the roster, extending Dach may prove to be one of Bowman’s most practical moves.
