Tamil actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, known for her role in Makkhi (Eaga), has shared a heartfelt message for Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Vinesh was recently disqualified from the Paris Olympics after being 100 grams over the weight limit. The disqualification led her to announce her retirement from wrestling.

Samantha posted a picture of Vinesh on Instagram with an encouraging message.

“At times, the most resilient individuals encounter the toughest obstacles. Remember that you are not alone, a higher power is watching over you. Your remarkable ability to persist in the midst of difficulties is truly admirable. We will always stand by you through all your highs and lows.” Samantha captioned.

Vinesh’s disqualification shocked many, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called her a “champion among champions.” Fellow athletes like Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia also expressed their support. Sakshi even mentioned that she would have given her medal to Vinesh if possible.

Vinesh had successfully made weight on the first day of the competition. However, she was slightly over the limit the next day, leading to her disqualification. Despite her efforts to shed the extra weight, she couldn’t make it in time.

Samantha’s message reflects the support and admiration Vinesh continues to receive from many Indians.

Vinesh shared her decision to retire in a post on X, saying (Translated from Hindi),

“Mom won the wrestling match against me, I lost. Forgive me, your dream, my courage is all broken, I don’t have any more strength now. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024 🙏 I will always be indebted to you all for forgiveness”

Vinesh is a three-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist and made history by winning gold at the 2018 Asian Games. She also won two bronze medals at the World Wrestling Championships. Vinesh has asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to consider awarding a joint silver medal, with the decision still pending. Her retirement ends a significant chapter in Indian wrestling.
