Thierry Henry has stepped down as the coach of France’s U21 national team. He has decided to leave for ‘personal reasons’, according to The Sun. Henry took on the role in August last year and led the team to several successes, including a silver medal at the recent Olympic Games in France.
Football Insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on X:
“Official: Thierry Henry has decided to terminate his contract as a France U21 manager. “Reasons of his own” mentioned for Thierry’s plan to leave the job.”
Thierry Henry’s Tenure and Achievements
During his time with the U21s, Henry guided the team to four wins out of six matches. The team also reached the Olympic final, where they lost 5-3 to Spain, earning a silver medal. This was a significant achievement for Henry as a coach, who said (via The Sun),
“I would like to thank the FFF and the president Philippe Diallo who offered me this incredible opportunity… Winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games for my country will remain one of the greatest prides of my life.”
“I am incredibly grateful to the federation, the players, the staff and the supporters who allowed me to live a magical experience.” Henry added.
Before coaching the U21s, Henry had challenging stints with AS Monaco and Montreal Impact. His time at Monaco was brief, lasting only three months, where he won just four out of 20 matches. At Montreal, he spent 15 months, achieving nine victories in 29 games.
