The Edmonton Oilers faced heavy fan backlash after their 6-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night. The defeat marked another difficult result for the team during a stretch of inconsistent play late in the NHL season.
For Edmonton, Zach Hyman scored two goals and Vasily Podkolzin added another. Connor McDavid recorded an assist, the same as Leon Draisaitl, but in total, the team generated only 16 shots. Tristan Jarry made 26 saves in the loss, his fourth straight.
The Oilers dropped to 30-25-8 after the defeat and have now lost six of their last eight games. Soon after the game ended, the team’s official X account posted the final score. The post quickly drew strong reactions from frustrated fans.
Several supporters directed their anger toward Oilers management.
One fan wrote, “Bowman ruined this team.”
Another fan added, “Bowman has to go so you can at least attempt to salvage this over 2 years. If he gets the off-season he’s gonna double smoke this team.”
“Yeah, this team is back to a rebuilding phase,” A fan reacted.
“Worst we’ve looked in a long time. Goaltending has never been fixed, Nurse continues to get worse, Walman is now unplayable. If we miss the playoffs, we need to clean house on EVERYTHING. New goalie, fire Nurse out of a cannon, fire Knoblauch, everything. This team stinks.” A fan bursted.
“ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! SAD TO THINK OILERS WERE A 2 X STANLEY CUP PLAYOFF TEAM! NOT LOOKING GOOD 🤬😡🤬” A fan wrote.
“Stop wasting McDavids career. Let him go somewhere that knows how to manage a team. This teams been mismanaged for his entire tenure here. Just an absolute joke.” One fan wrote for McDavid.
“Missing the playoffs … OIL CHANGE Time!!” One fan mentioned.
The reactions reflected growing frustration among fans as the team struggles to find steady form. Edmonton has gone 2-3 in its last five games following the Winter Olympics break. The Oilers lost to the Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, and now the Hurricanes during this stretch.
Oilers Need Urgency As Consistency Has Been Missing
Despite the recent struggles, Edmonton remains in the playoff race. The Oilers sit third in the Pacific Division with 68 points. The team continues to rely on a strong offense that averages 3.54 goals per game. McDavid leads the NHL with 106 points, including 35 goals and 71 assists.

However, defensive play remains a major concern. Edmonton allows 3.38 goals per game and ranks near the bottom of the league on the penalty kill. These issues have contributed to the team’s uneven results throughout the 2025-26 season.
