Sidney Crosby Injury Update Emerges Before Semifinals Against Finland

An update has emerged on Sidney Crosby ahead of Canada’s semifinal clash with Finland at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Crosby suffered a lower-body injury during the second period of Canada’s 4-3 overtime win against Czechia in the quarterfinal. He took a heavy hit from Slovakia’s Radko Guda, before taking another collision along the boards, which forced him to the bench and eventually to the dressing room.

A day after the injury, head coach Jon Cooper gave an update on the captain.

“We got the best of the best looking at him,” Cooper said. “We’re taking this day by day, and we’re not going to put anybody in harm’s way. But if he can play, he’s definitely going to. We’ll know more again in 24 hours.”

So far, Crosby has six points in four games, with two goals and four assists. At 38, the Cole Harbour native still drives play at an elite level. The Pittsburgh Penguins star has 59 points in 56 NHL games this season and continues to log heavy minutes.

How are Canada’s men’s team performing in 2026 Winter Olympics?

Canada entered the medal rounds as the top seed in group play and remains unbeaten. They opened with wins over Czechia, Switzerland, and France before surviving a tight rematch with Czechia in the quarterfinal.

If Crosby cannot suit up, the spotlight will shift even more toward stars like Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon. However, beyond those two stars, there are several other good players in the lineup. Players like Mitch Marner (who scored the overtime goal against Czechia), Macklin Celebrini, Mark Stone, Cale Makar, Tom Wilson, etc.
