Cricket Legend Sachin Tendulkar has praised Industrialist Mr Ratan Tata on his death.

Tata was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and was placed in intensive care. On October 7, 2024, he said he was undergoing routine medical tests due to age-related issues. He passed away at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on October 9, 2024, around 11 PM IST, at the age of 86.

Tendulkar took to X to share his message, he wrote,

“In his life, and demise, Mr Ratan Tata has moved the nation. I was fortunate to spend time with him, but millions, who have never met him, feel the same grief that I feel today. Such is his impact. From his love for animals to philanthropy, he showed that true progress can only be achieved when we care for those who don’t have the means to take care of themselves. Rest in peace, Mr Tata. Your legacy will continue to live through the institutions you built and values that you embraced.”

Ratan Tata was chairman of Tata Sons from 1990 to 2012 and served briefly as interim chairman in 2016–2017. Under his leadership, Tata Group expanded globally, acquiring Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus.

Tata was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008 for his contributions. Ratan Tata also invested in over 30 start-ups, supporting new ventures in various fields.

He started his career at Tata Steel in 1961 and later succeeded J. R. D. Tata as chairman in 1991. Tata was also a graduate in architecture from Cornell University.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared three tweets to share his emotions on Ratan Tata’s death. He tweeted that Ratan Tata was a visionary leader and a kind, humble person. He led a respected business and worked to improve society.

“Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better.”

“One of the most unique aspects of Shri Ratan Tata Ji was his passion towards dreaming big and giving back. He was at the forefront of championing causes like education, healthcare, sanitation, animal welfare to name a few.”

“My mind is filled with countless interactions with Shri Ratan Tata Ji. I would meet him frequently in Gujarat when I was the CM. We would exchange views on diverse issues. I found his perspectives very enriching. These interactions continued when I came to Delhi. Extremely pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family, friends and admirers in this sad hour. Om Shanti.”
