Oilers Coach Kris Knoblauch Praises $2M Forward Max Jones

The Edmonton Oilers continued their push in the NHL‘s Pacific Division with a 3-0 win over the Seattle Kraken, and head coach Kris Knoblauch made it clear that Max Jones is becoming a key piece in the lineup. Speaking on the next day after the win, Knoblauch praised Jones’ recent form, pointing to his speed, energy, and growing offensive touch.

“Jonesy has played really well for us this season, and just trying to think about how many games he’s played, a dozen or so throughout the year,” Knoblauch said. “He’s been very solid. You know, he was up with us in December and unfortunately just wasn’t able to stick around, but I liked his energy, his speed, and also getting in on the forecheck with some hits.”

Jones opened the scoring against Seattle, marking another strong performance since his recall from the Bakersfield Condors on March 13. The winger has delivered timely contributions in limited minutes, often skating under ten minutes per game while still influencing outcomes.

Jones’ impact has been most visible in clutch situations. Jones scored a go-ahead goal in a win over the San Jose Sharks and followed it with another key tally against Seattle. Despite modest numbers, his production has come when it matters most, with all five of his points this season arriving in Oilers victories.

“He’s been rewarded with some goals as of late, last couple games, but all-around game you always want to get bigger and faster, having a little more speed, and he definitely provides that,” Knoblauch said.

Max Jones has also provided physicality to the Oilers

Beyond scoring, Max Jones has added a physical edge to the bottom-six unit. He has recorded 45 hits in 16 NHL appearances, showing his ability to disrupt opponents and maintain pressure. His style fits well with Knoblauch’s emphasis on speed and aggression.

Jones’ journey this season reflects persistence. After a brief stint earlier in the year, he returned stronger and more effective. His AHL numbers, including 18 points in 39 games, showed steady development that has now translated to the NHL level.

With injuries affecting the forward group, Jones has filled an important role. The Oilers, currently holding a strong 38-28-9 record and playoff position, continue to rely on depth contributions.

If Jones maintains this level, he could remain a valuable option as the postseason approaches.
