Billie Eilish has reached a new milestone by surpassing 1 billion monthly listeners on Spotify. This makes her the most-streamed artist on the platform, taking over from The Weeknd.
Eilish shared her excitement on Instagram with a post featuring 100,105,704 monthly listeners, saying,
“Number 1 in the world on Spotify I really can’t even believe this. I love you all so much this is the craziest thing ever.”
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, congratulated Eilish on her achievement. Last week, he shared a supportive message on X, writing, “Let’s go!” He had noticed that Eilish was close to reaching the top spot.
Eilish reached 100 million monthly listeners in June 2024. She is the third artist to do so, after The Weeknd and Taylor Swift. Eilish has eight songs in Spotify’s Billions Club. This includes “Lovely” with Khalid, “Bad Guy,” and “When the Party’s Over.”
Her latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, came out in April 2024. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The album includes songs like “Birds of a Feather” and “Chihiro.”
Billie Eilish’s success on Spotify shows her strong presence in the music world. Fans look forward to her future releases. Eilish has become the third and youngest artist to achieve this, after The Weeknd and Taylor Swift.
Billie Eilish talks about the music video of her song “Lunch”
Billie Eilish introduced her Hit Me Hard and Soft era with a 90s-inspired video for “Lunch.” In the video, she dances in oversized sporty clothes and sings playful lyrics. Eilish wanted the video to be simple and a nod to 90s music videos she loves.
“(The music video was) an ode to 90’s music videos and all the videos I grew up loving. I’ve always loved the simplicity of performance takes and I didn’t want a lot going on in this video.” Eilish said in Vevo Footnotes segment.
Eilish shared that filming the video involved a funny challenge—eating the food shown. She had a big table of apples and cherries, which she would take bites of and then spit out. At first, she ate too much and felt full, but she said it was worth it.
