“My First Olympics”: Connor McDavid Reflects on Silver Win With Canada

Connor McDavid called his first Olympic experience special, even without gold. The Edmonton Oilers captain posted photos on Friday from the 2026 Games in Milan, wearing the Team Canada jersey, and several other moments, including a picture with his wife, Lauren Kyle.

“My first Olympics in Milan was a special experience. Thank you, Canada, for your incredible support throughout this ride,” McDavid wrote. “And a huge thanks to @Airbnb for giving my family and I a comfortable home base and place to unwind and recharge between games.”

On the ice, McDavid delivered one of the best Olympic runs of the NHL era. He led Canada to a silver medal after a 2-1 overtime loss to the United States in the final. Canada entered the tournament as a top seed and rolled through the group stage. The team beat Czechia 5-0, Switzerland 5-1, and France 10-2, outscoring opponents 20-3.

Canada survived a quarter-final scare against Czechia, winning 4-3 in overtime. Captain Sidney Crosby suffered a knee injury in that game and missed the rest of the event. McDavid then took over the captaincy in the semifinal against Finland. He recorded two assists in a 3-2 comeback win, including one on Nathan MacKinnon’s late winner.

In the gold medal game, the United States struck first before Cale Makar tied it late in the second. The game went to three-on-three overtime, where Jack Hughes scored the winner for the Americans.

McDavid was still left with major honors. He finished with 13 points in six games, an NHL-era Olympic record. His 11 assists also set a single-tournament mark. He earned MVP and Best Forward honors and secured a place on the All-Star team.

Connor McDavid Reached 9th 100 Point Season

Back in Edmonton, McDavid quickly shifted focus. On February 26, he reached the 100-point mark for the ninth time in his career during an 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings. He became the first player this season to hit the milestone.

McDavid reached 100 points in just 60 games, recording 35 goals and 65 assists. He picked up his 100th point with an assist on a power-play goal by longtime teammate Leon Draisaitl.

The milestone places him third all-time with nine 100-point seasons, behind only Wayne Gretzky (15) and Mario Lemieux (10). Even after Olympic heartbreak, McDavid’s scoring pace remains unmatched.
