Elon Musk shared a tweet from Mario Nawfal about the upcoming SpaceX Polaris Dawn mission. The mission is set to launch on August 26 and will feature the first private spacewalk. The crew includes Jared Isaacman, Scott “Kidd” Poteet, Sarah Gillis, and Anna Menon. They will orbit Earth at about 435 miles altitude.
Elon Musk didn’t say anything and simply shared Nawfal’s post which read.
“They are aiming for August 26 to begin the launch of Polaris Dawn, a crewed flight that will feature the first-ever private spacewalk. The 4 crewmembers are billionaire entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, who will command the mission; pilot Scott “Kidd” Poteet, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel; and mission specialists Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon, both of whom are SpaceX engineers. Polaris Dawn will orbit Earth at an altitude of about 435 miles (700 kilometers), taking the crew farther from Earth than any mission since the Apollo era.”
Soon, Elon Musk’s followers started sharing their opinions in the comment section.
“Making history, one day at a time.” a fan said,
“If the moon landing was fake, could SpaceX put the first men on the moon?” a fan questioned,
“Hopefully this event would be streamed. I would love to witness the first private spacewalk” one fan wrote.
However, not everyone was happy with this news. A fan who believed in making Earth more sustainable than spending millions on Space exploration critically questioned,
“What does this achieve exactly. Will it help climate change, war, famine, making life on Earth better? It costs billions to do this and surely the money would be better spent on making our home more sustainable.”
“Polaric Down is like something from science fiction movies box office , i am looking forward to it” another fan said.
“This is important and exciting! This mission is the first step towards Mars and the stars” one fan opined.
