Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy will undergo knee surgery. He has a torn meniscus in his right knee.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that McCarthy experienced knee soreness and had an MRI, which revealed the injury. The type of surgery will decide how long he is sidelined. A trim may mean a shorter recovery, while a repair could take months.
Schefter took to X and tweeted,
“ESPN Sources: Vikings rookie first-round pick J.J. McCarthy is expected to be undergo knee surgery that will determine how much time he will be sidelined. McCarthy complained about knee soreness over the weekend, and underwent an MRI on Monday night.”
J.J. McCarthy played well in his preseason debut, completing 11 of 17 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns. With him out, Sam Darnold will start as the quarterback. The Vikings’ next preseason game is against the Cleveland Browns, and their season opener is on September 8 against the New York Giants.
