Donald Trump said he is open to having Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in his administration if Kennedy drops out of the 2024 race and endorses him.
In an interview after a campaign stop in Michigan, Trump talked to Kristen Holmes of CNN. Trump said he would welcome Kennedy’s endorsement and would consider giving him a role in his administration if he wins.
“I like him, and I respect him,” Trump said, “I probably would, if something like that would happen. He’s a very different kind of a guy — a very smart guy. And, yeah, I would be honored by that endorsement, certainly.”
“I like smart people, and Republicans like me,” Trump added.
Trump praised Kennedy, calling him smart and someone he respects.
“He’s a brilliant guy. He’s a very smart guy. I’ve known him for a very long time… I didn’t know he was thinking about getting out, but if he is thinking about getting out, certainly I’d be open to it.”
Trump downplayed concerns about Republican backlash, saying he likes smart people.
Donald Trump’s statement came after Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan’s comments
Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, mentioned that they might exit the race to help Trump defeat Kamala Harris.
“There are two options that we’re looking at, and one is staying in, forming that new party, but we run the risk of a Kamala Harris and (Tim) Walz presidency. Because we draw votes from Trump, or we draw somehow more votes from Trump,” Shanahan said to podcast host Tom Bilyeu. “Or we walk away right now and join forces with — with Donald Trump.”
It will be interesting to see, which option Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will ultimately take.
