Juventus has signed defender Lloyd Kelly from Newcastle United on loan with an obligation to buy. Football insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move, reporting that Kelly was traveling to Turin for a medical. The total transfer deal is worth around £20 million, including the loan fee.

“The first pic of Lloyd Kelly set to become new Juventus player here on his way to Turin with his agent Hootan Ahmadi! £20m package agreed (loan fee included) and medical booked in Turin. Here we go, story confirmed. ✈️” Romano tweeted on X.

Kelly joined Newcastle last summer as a free agent from Bournemouth. He made 14 appearances but did not play regularly. With defenders like Fabian Schär and Sven Botman available, Newcastle decided to let him go. His departure also helps reduce wage costs for new signings.

Juventus needed defensive reinforcements due to injuries and inconsistent performances. After missing out on other targets, they turned to Kelly. His Premier League experience made him a strong option for coach Thiago Motta.

Kelly wanted more playing time and welcomed the move. Now, he has a chance to prove himself at Juventus. Meanwhile, Newcastle will focus on strengthening their attack before the transfer deadline.

Newcastle United face defensive problems after Lloyd Kelly’s exit

Newcastle United’s decision to sell Lloyd Kelly to Juventus raises concerns about their defense. The sale helps with financial rules but leaves the squad weaker.

Eddie Howe believes Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles provide enough cover, but both have struggled with injuries. Emil Krafth, mainly a right-back, has played at center-back but lacks experience in that role.

Newcastle are still competing in multiple competitions, and a few injuries could cause problems. Reports say the club will not sign a replacement until summer.

Waiting to strengthen the defense is a risk. Injuries have already affected Newcastle this season. Losing another defender could make things worse. The club may regret not signing a replacement now. Fans will hope the decision does not hurt their season.
