Before the game on Saturday, the club confirmed that midfielder Gavi has recovered from injury and is available again. Barcelona posted the update on X with a short message that excited fans.
The club wrote, “Our No. 6 is back.” Barcelona also shared an older quote from Gavi that captured his loyalty to the team. In September 2025, the midfielder said, “I’ll come back as many time as it takes to defend Barca.”
Supporters quickly celebrated the announcement online.
One fan wrote, “Our Ultimate Warrior is back ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
Another supporter shared a tactical idea for the team. The fan wrote, “Use him in double pivot with Pedri.”
Gavi completes long recovery after knee surgery
The Spanish midfielder returns after several months away from the pitch. Gavi underwent arthroscopic surgery on September 23, 2025, to treat a meniscus injury in his right knee. Doctors repaired the meniscus during the procedure to preserve the joint.
That recovery process required patience and careful rehabilitation. Medical staff expected four to five months of recovery time after the operation. Gavi followed the program closely and worked for 172 days to return to full fitness.
The midfielder had appeared early in the season before the setback. He played 20 minutes in the opening league match against Mallorca. He then played 45 minutes against Levante before discomfort in the knee forced him to stop playing.
Now Gavi has received medical clearance to return. The 21-year-old could make his comeback against Sevilla, which holds personal meaning because he comes from Andalusia. If he appears, it would mark his first match in 205 days.
How will Gavi’s return benefit FC Barcelona?
The timing of the return could prove important for Barcelona’s season. The team currently leads the La Liga title race. Barcelona holds a four-point advantage over Real Madrid at the top of the standings.
Barcelona also remains active in the UEFA Champions League. With important matches approaching, Gavi’s energy and intensity could boost the squad during the decisive stretch of the campaign.
