The Pittsburgh Penguins received a major boost ahead of their clash with the Carolina Hurricanes, as captain Sidney Crosby is set to return from injury. The star forward will be activated off injured reserve and is expected to play Wednesday night.
Crosby has missed the Penguins’ last 11 games after suffering a lower-body injury while representing Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics. His return comes at a crucial time, with Pittsburgh firmly in the playoff race and looking to maintain momentum.
“Good. Yeah, excited to get back in it,” Crosby said while speaking to the media. “Just watching these guys… it’s been close, so just happy to finally be back in there.”
The Penguins confirmed his return with a message on X, posting: “The Captain’s return 🔄 Penguins at Hurricanes. 7 PM.” His presence immediately strengthens a team that has already put together a solid 34-18-15 record this season.
Crosby has been central to that success, recording 27 goals and 59 points in 56 games. He is expected to slot straight back into the top line, centering Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust. His return pushes Anthony Mantha off the top unit, while Ville Koivunen is likely to be a healthy scratch.
Teammate Kris Letang underlined Crosby’s importance to the lineup.
“He’s irreplaceable. If you get him back in your lineup, you get so much better in a quick instant,” Letang said.
Pittsburgh enters the game after a dominant 7-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche, where Evgeni Malkin scored twice. The team has remained competitive even without Crosby, but his return adds leadership and offensive edge.

The Hurricanes, meanwhile, present a tough challenge with a 42-19-6 record. They have already beaten Pittsburgh once this season and remain one of the top teams in the division.
For the Penguins, Crosby’s return could shift momentum at a key stage. With both teams fighting near the top, his presence may prove decisive in a high-stakes matchup.
