Lamine Yamal adds fuel to El Clasico rivalry with “They rob and complain” remark

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has drawn attention before Sunday’s El Clasico by making sharp comments about Real Madrid. Speaking on Gerard Piqué’s Kings League YouTube channel, Yamal compared Real Madrid to Piqué’s rival team, Porcinos.

“Yes, they rob; they complain; they do things,” Yamal said when asked about Madrid.

Piqué added,

“It’s not debatable.”

The comments have quickly spread ahead of the match at the Santiago Bernabéu.

This is not Yamal’s first bold statement about Madrid. Last season, he said Madrid “could not handle” Barcelona after Barça’s Copa del Rey win. Later, he doubled down, saying,

“While I’m winning, they can’t say anything — when they beat me, they can.”

Yamal scored three goals and provided two assists in four games against Madrid last season. Despite a groin problem this year, he has already contributed three goals and five assists in seven appearances.

Madrid’s recent history with refereeing disputes adds more tension. Last season, the club requested new officials for the Copa del Rey final after referees faced public criticism. Madrid also sent a letter to LaLiga after a loss to Espanyol, complaining about inconsistent decisions. These moments make Yamal’s “they rob and complain” comment even more pointed. His remark echoes long-standing rival narratives between the two clubs.

Lamine Yamal’s team is ready for El Clasico

Barcelona are preparing for the match with a nearly full squad. Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen joined training, along with several young players from Barça Atlètic. Barça will wear a special Ed Sheeran-themed jersey for the game. Midfielder Pedri said,

“In a Clasico, it doesn’t really matter how either team arrives.”

Defender Ronald Araujo added,

“We have the quality and the conditions to win.”

It will be forward Marcus Rashford’s first El Clasico, who said he his happy.

“It’s my first Clásico and I’m looking forward to it because it’s maybe the biggest game there is,” Rashford said. “The Clásico is the most watched game in the world. So remembering one memory is difficult. You don’t need to be a Barcelona or Real Madrid to enjoy it. The Clásico is special.”

Sunday’s game will decide who leads La Liga. Real Madrid sit two points ahead after nine matches. The kickoff is at 4:15 p.m. local time, with global coverage across all major platforms.
