FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick continues to receive recognition after a strong first year with the club. On Monday, the German manager was named Coach of the Year at the 2025 SPORT BILD gala. The event took place in Hamburg in front of 600 guests, but Flick joined virtually from Barcelona. He accepted the award and reflected on his role as coach of one of the world’s biggest clubs, Barcelona, which is worth $5.65B per Forbes.
“As head coach, you’re on the front line,” Flick said. “You get criticised, but you also get praised when things go well. That’s just how it is. I’m very confident in what I do, but it takes a strong coaching staff around you to do an excellent job. And I have that here in Barcelona. Plus, it’s a lot of fun working with these people.”
Flick’s first season in charge, 2024/25, brought instant success. Barcelona won the domestic treble: La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup. The team also made a strong run in the Champions League, reaching the semi-finals before narrowly missing the final. With a bold and attacking playing style, Barcelona gained praise both in Spain and across Europe.
But this has only been possible after Flick and his team’s consistent effort. Pointing to this, Flick highlighted the importance of daily work with his players.
“I think that’s what drives me, seeing the players every day, staying in contact with them. That’s the most important thing for me.”
Flick’s comments reflect his belief in strong relationships with players and staff. He has made this a key part of his philosophy at the club.
Previously, in June, Flick was also named La Liga Coach of the Season by the league itself. Now, the Bild award brings recognition from Germany. He has also been nominated for the Johan Cruyff Award at the upcoming Ballon d’Or gala on 22 September. This international recognition shows how well his first year at Barcelona has been received.
Hansi Flick’s Barca’s comeback mentality
FC Barcelona under Flick has built a reputation for dramatic fightbacks. Last Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Levante, after trailing 2-0, was already the club’s first comeback win of the 2025/26 season. It was also the tenth comeback win under Flick since his arrival. Nine came last season, and now the new campaign has started with another.
Flick’s first official game as Barcelona coach in 2024 followed a similar pattern. The team went behind 1-0 against Valencia but won 2-1. Two weeks later, they came from behind again, this time against Rayo Vallecano, winning by the same scoreline. These early matches set the tone for a season where resilience became one of the team’s strongest traits.
Barca’s comebacks in Cups and Europe
The fighting spirit extended beyond La Liga. In January 2025, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup, despite falling behind early. The same month saw their most dramatic comeback in the Champions League. Facing Benfica and trailing 4-2, they turned the game around to win 5-4, one of the standout results of the season.
Real Madrid also suffered again in the Copa del Rey final. Barcelona came from behind to secure a 3-2 victory, with a late goal from Jules Kounde. In La Liga, another clásico ended 4-3 to Barcelona, after trailing 2-0 at home. These results showed that even against their biggest rival, Flick’s side would not give up.
Other teams also experienced the same pattern. Atlético Madrid went 2-0 up at the Metropolitano, but Barcelona responded with a 4-2 victory. Celta Vigo led 3-1, yet Barcelona came back to win 4-3. Even near the end of the season, with the league almost secured, Barcelona came from behind to beat Valladolid 2-1 at the José Zorrilla stadium.
The recent comeback against Levante shows that this mentality continues into the new season. Flick’s side have again shown their ability to respond under pressure. It has become a clear identity of this Barcelona team.

Hansi Flick’s praise for Lamine Yamal
Alongside team success, Hansi Flick has also praised individual players. He recently made strong comments about young forward Lamine Yamal. Speaking to German media after receiving his award, Flick said:
“Lamine is a true genius. Especially at his age, 18, he decides games single-handedly,” Flick said about Yamal. “He’s on the right track. He’s also very intelligent. But of course, he’s still very young at 18 and has to learn from others. We support him. I’m convinced he’ll be one of the best players the world of football has ever seen.”
These comments show Flick’s belief in Yamal’s future. The teenager has already become an important figure for Barcelona. Flick continues to stress that while talent is there, Yamal must keep learning and developing. His confidence in Yamal becoming one of football’s all-time greats is one of his strongest public statements so far.

Recognition and Future Goals
Hansi Flick’s latest award from Bild adds to his growing list of honours. It recognises both his results and his approach to coaching. He has built a team that wins trophies, fights until the last minute, and develops young talent. His words about enjoying the job reflect his comfort in Barcelona despite the pressures of the role.
With another season just beginning, Flick and Barcelona aim to build on the success of last year. Comebacks, trophies, and the growth of young stars like Yamal are likely to remain central. Flick’s leadership has already reshaped the club, and his comments suggest he is focused on both results and relationships as key to progress.
Ferran Torres mentioned Hansi Flick’s advice in Levante win
Barcelona’s 3-2 win over Levante kept their perfect start in the 2025/26 La Liga season. After beating Mallorca 3-0, they now have six goals in two matches. Striker Ferran Torres has scored in both games, showing good form under coach Hansi Flick.
”He gave us a couple of tactical nuances because we weren’t completely well positioned and, most importantly, we had to show character, that winning gene. We came out well and were effective.” Torres said about Hansi Flick. ”I’ve always believed I can be important in this team. I see myself capable of being a starter, and whenever the manager sees fit, I have to take advantage of it. The competition is very high, but it’s good.”
Against Mallorca, Ferran scored with a clean finish from the edge of the area. Against Levante, he added another goal with an acrobatic strike from a Raphinha corner. Ferran has scored the second goal in both matches. His goal against Mallorca made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute. Against Levante, his goal tied the score 2-2 in the 52nd minute.
Barcelona won the Levante game after a late own goal. So, Hansi Flick and Barcelona look to continue their winning pace. The next match is away against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday at 9.30pm CEST.
