In the match against Poland, Portugal took a 2-0 lead. Ronaldo scored in the 35th minute after Rafael Leão’s shot hit the post. Ronaldo was in position to tap in the rebound.
Ronaldo has been consistent, scoring in Portugal’s last two Nations League games. He netted a goal in their 2-1 win over Croatia and another in their 2-1 victory against Scotland.
Ronaldo continues to play a key role for Portugal, adding to his impressive season.
Cristiano Ronaldo responds to Antonio Cassano’s criticism of his playing style
Cristiano Ronaldo continues scoring goals and winning titles. However, his impact on soccer is sometimes questioned. In September, former Italian striker Antonio Cassano criticized Ronaldo, leaving him unhappy.
Cassano, who played for clubs like Roma, AC Milan, and Real Madrid, said Ronaldo focuses too much on scoring and doesn’t play well with teammates. He excluded Ronaldo from his top 10 players of all time, saying others like Higuaín, Lewandowski, Benzema, and Ibrahimović understand teamwork better.
Ronaldo responded by sending Cassano a message listing his career achievements, including goals and trophies. He also sent a voice note, feeling disrespected by Cassano’s comments. Cassano shared the exchange on a podcast, saying Ronaldo took the time to defend himself, but he stood by his opinion.
“Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t make my top five, or even top ten, because for me the quality of a player is another thing. Next thing, I finish the work I was doing and I get a text message from a +34 number, that’s Spain. It’s a list of all the trophies, goals and statistics,” Cassano said, (per BSMT Podcast).
“Then he sends me a voice note, telling me, ‘You disrespected me, don’t do anything like that again. You only scored 150 goals, you only won four trophies.’ So I answer him. I say, ‘Dear Cristiano, listen to me. You think I disrespected you, I just don’t like you as a player. What’s the problem?’” Cassano added.
Ronaldo has scored 905 goals and made 373 assists in 1,234 games, winning 35 trophies, including five UEFA Champions League titles. Cassano’s career numbers are much lower, with 149 goals and 122 assists in 554 games, winning only four domestic titles. Cassano retired in 2018, while Ronaldo still plays for Al Nassr.
Despite Cassano’s criticism, Ronaldo’s career achievements and continued success stand out.
